The foundation
stone of OMT company has been laid down in Tortona in 1928 by Giuseppe Caldana.
In the early Italian industrial period he managed to organise one of the
first production lines of tankers and vessels for road, naval and agro transportation.
Soon after World War II with a fast growing economy and industrial activity
Tortona became a very important cross-road among four North Western regions
such as Liguria, Piedmont, Lombardy and Emilia Romagna. In that period many
transport companies started their activity in Tortona and Caldana had the
opportunity and skill to start up a small-scale production of super structure
body work and tankers for dangerous and non dangerous products.
In 1955 the Company has been acquired by local industrialists to become
OMT-Officine Meccaniche Tortonesi.
The new industrial trace and the development of market demand on rail, road
and sea transport equipment gave an impulse to new projects and to technological
improvements.
The high technological level reached by OMT in the past decades brought
the Company to reach a pre-eminent level among Italian road tankers manufacturers.
OMT is motivated to expand its commercial activity in the major European
countries by achieving homologations of innovating products and by taking
advantage of its industry knowledge and expertise.
